To create each Murano glass ''Tribal Layers'' necklace, Anna and Felisa of Murano infuse jet black glass with swirls of copper crystals to create beads that looks like wood from a distance, then alternate with faceted glass beads in a deep cream color and drape from a strand of jet black crystals. The tradition of replicating natural wonders in Murano glass began in the fourteenth century, when Marco Polo would return to his native Venice with exotic treasures gathered from around the world. Soon, all of Venice would fall in love with these new looks. Unfortunately, there was never enough of the real thing to go around. So Venice's glass masters, unequaled in all the world, would invent ways to replicate these desirable looks from foreign lands. Pearl or stone, wood or ivory… the lampwork glass replicas are now often prized more than the real thing. Few artisans remain with the talent and decades of experience to pull this off! Anna and Felisa's ''Tribal Layers'' Murano glass necklace measures approximately 17 inches long with 4 inch bib, lobster clasp and gold-plated findings. Handcrafted exclusively for Uno Alla Volta, from the hearts and hands of artisans.
