Inlaid Birch Wood Scissor Knife

Bill and Miles, our father and son artisans, handcraft each scissor knife in their century-old adobe ranch house in the shadow of the nearby Sangre de Cristo Mountains. They collaborate with a master inlay artist who carefully accents each pocketknife with treated eastern birch wood in an elaborate quilted pattern. Due to variations in natural materials, colors and striations may differ. Our scissor knife is equipped with a file and comes packaged in a presentation box with a certificate of authenticity. Each piece is handcrafted, uno alla volta, from the hearts and hands of artisans; no two are exactly alike. Scissor knife measures approx. 2.25 in. long.

Handmade goods have cultural significance in almost every subculture and financial class. While the upper echelon may delight in the exclusivity of an object, crafting culture permeates the trendy shops of modern-day, millennial Brooklyn, and led the grassroots, ultra-feminist Riot Grrrl movement of the early 1990s. From punk musicians to polished socialites, an appreciation for handcrafted, one-of-a-kind wares is a common thread that connects us to our humanity. This work reminds us that our fingers can do so much more than just operate machines. It connects us to our cultures, our ancestors, our neighbors, and even strangers from faraway places, just through placing a single object between our palms.
